Our esteemed panel will delve into the details of the review process, offering valuable insights into what reviewers look for in a paper, how papers are ranked and selected based on reviews, and how to avoid common mistakes. The panel discussion will be interactive, giving you the opportunity to ask questions directly to the panelists. About the Speakers:
Islem Rekik is the Director of the Brain And SIgnal Research and Analysis (BASIRA) laboratory (http://basira-lab.com/) and an Associate Professor at Imperial College London (Innovation Hub I-X). Together with BASIRA members, she conducted more than 85 cutting-edge research projects cross-pollinating AI and healthcare —with a sharp focus on brain imaging and neuroscience. She is also a co/chair/organizer of more than 20 international first-class conferences/workshops/competitions (e.g., Affordable AI 2021-22, Predictive AI 2018-2022, Machine Learning in Medical Imaging 2021-22, WILL competition 2021-22). In addition to her 130+ high-impact publications, she is a strong advocate of equity, inclusiveness and diversity in research. She is the former president of the Women in MICCAI (WiM) and the co-founder of the international RISE Network to Reinforce Inclusiveness & diverSity and Empower minority researchers in Low-Middle Income Countries (LMIC).
Linwei Wang is a Professor of Computing and Information Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. She is the Director of the Personalized Healthcare Technology (PHT180) research center at RIT, a Signature Interdisciplinary Research Area composed of over 100 faculty affiliates across nine colleges at RIT. Dr. Wang also directs the Computational Biomedical Lab at RIT, with research interests centered around statistical inference and Bayesian learning with applications to signal and image analysis in a variety of domains including health, astrophysics, and material design. Dr. Wang is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award in 2014 and the United States Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2019. She is also an active member of the MICCAI Society, including being the Program Chair for MICCAI 2022, a member on the Board of the MICCAI Society since 2020, and recently elected to be the Executive Secretary for the Society.
Ronald M. Summers, M.D., Ph.D. is a tenured Senior Investigator and Staff Radiologist in the Radiology and Imaging Sciences Department at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. He is a Fellow of the Society of Abdominal Radiologists and of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. His awards include the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the NIH Director’s Award, the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein Mentoring Award, and the NIH Clinical Center Director’s Award. He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Medical Imaging, Radiology: Artificial Intelligence and Academic Radiology and a past member of the editorial board of Radiology. He was Co-Chair of the 2018 and 2019 SPIE Medical Imaging conferences and Program Co-Chair of the 2018 IEEE ISBI symposium. He has co-authored over 600 journal, review and conference proceedings articles and is a co-inventor on 17 patents. His research interests include thoracic and abdominal imaging, large radiology image databases, and artificial intelligence.
