Description
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is currently seeking a Computational Science Analyst with expertise in full stack web development and automation to work on a web portal and posting pipeline for large images for the Brain Architecture Project in the Mitra lab. The candidate should be comfortable working in a Linux environment and distributed/networked computation and be able to participate in maintaining and growing a large storage and compute cluster. In order to understand how brains work, we need to understand their circuit connectivity. After a century of research this knowledge remains incomplete, so multiple research groups are now targeting this knowledge gap to fundamentally advance our understanding of brain function. The Brain Architecture Project is a collaborative effort aimed at creating an integrated resource containing knowledge about nervous system architecture in multiple species. The candidate will participate in an exciting fundamental neuroscience science project, while helping make advances in machine vision/learning in a big data environment using methods that are competitive in both academic and industrial environments.
Position Responsibilities
• Building and maintaining web infrastructure handling large image data for the project.
Working knowledge is required both for front-end and back-end technology stacks, working within a DevOps framework.
Familiarity with Angular, Node.JS, Python and related technologies and languages, working within a Linux environment.
The individual is expected to be able to build efficient, flexible, extensible, and scalable solutions to system administration problems and big data handling.
• Developing and translate algorithms (image processing) that integrate into working prototype code and existing informatics pipelines.
• Maintain and enhance web-based data visualization and annotation pipelines for scalability and reliability.
• Curate and organize data sets of both structured and unstructured data.
Position Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
Skills:
Proficiency in full-stack web development, with experience in both front-end and back-end technologies.
Strong programming skills in Angular, Node.JS, Python, and related languages.
Experience with Linux environment and system administration.
Familiarity with distributed/networked computation and DevOps frameworks.
Ability to develop and translate algorithms, particularly in image processing.
Competency in web-based data visualization and annotation pipelines.
Proficient in curating and organizing structured and unstructured data sets.
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in web infrastructure development and maintenance, particularly handling large image data.
Demonstrated experience in building scalable solutions for system administration problems and big data handling.
Experience in developing and maintaining informatics pipelines.
Prior involvement in machine vision/learning projects in a big data environment is desirable.
Experience working on collaborative scientific projects, especially in neuroscience or related fields, is a plus.
