Do you want to use deep learning to segment the finest cellular structures responsible for the communication speed in the brain network - namely the micrometer-sized myelinated axons and their supporting cells? Are you up for the challenge to deploy your image processing and deep-learning pipelines to handle BIG images acquired at micrometer resolutions? Are you interested in doing all of this to help understand disease-induced effects on the 3D geometry of myelinated axons and cells and their correlation to brain function? Are you eager to work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary research environment with a focus on structural brain imaging? If yes, you should send us your application.

DTU Compute’s Section for Visual Computing is offering a postdoc in deep-learning 3D image segmentation of brain circuitry starting on 1st March 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The project is financed by the European Research Council (ERC) consolidator project ”CoM-BraiN” - Conduction Velocity Mapping in Brain Networks of healthy and disease - where we aim to use an MRI scanner to non-invasively map the conduction velocity of neuronal transmissions in the brain network between brain regions. The project will also be carried out at the Danish Research Centre for MR at Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The overall focus of your job will be to establish segmentation methods to quantify geometries and organizations of cells and neurons based on ultra-high resolution 3D imaging data using deep learning methods. More specifically, you will combine anatomical feature information from multiple imaging modalities such as diffusion MRI, synchrotron imaging, light-sheet microscopy, and electron microscopy. Furthermore, you will be involved and participate in the data acquisition together with other experts to ensure the best possible data quality for your segmentation and image analysis methods.

We expect
- You have a background in computer science, engineering, physics, or similar qualifications within image analysis and hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) as a formal qualification
- You have documented programming experience in e.g., Python or Matlab.
- As a person, you have a good team spirit, an innovative and constructive thinking, research excitement.
- You possess good English communication skills.
It will be a benefit if you have experience in data collection, image processing, and analysis of one of the image modalities.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 36 months with a start date of 1 March 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
